Udea BV is a wholesaler of organic foods destined for the Dutch market. Our range, which includes potatoes, fruit and vegetables, refrigerated products (such as dairy produce, cheese, meat, vegetarian products, fast food products, ready meals and fine foods), dry grocery products (such as juices, drinks, sweets, biscuits and cereals etc.) and frozen products (such as ice cream, fish and fast food products) is as comprehensive as possible.

As a brand house, Udea has developed a number of strong product brands. These include Proef, BioCumulus, EkoPlaza, Sweet Company, het dichtst bij de natuur, 3 Little Goats, Healthy Planet, Laitois and Ice Cream Factory, all of which have proven themselves on retail shelves. Under the Proef brand we distribute our own Vitatas fruit and vegetable packs.

As our group also comprises two production companies and as we are always close to our sources through our relationships with our growers, we are able to supply fresh goods at competitive prices.

Udea supplies goods to wholefood shops, organic supermarkets, specialist shops, bulk consumers and retailers in the Benelux countries. We also export fresh and frozen goods to more than 10 other countries. In order to be able to offer as comprehensive a range of fresh products as possible all year round, we also need to import a considerable proportion of our goods, depending on the season. This requirement has resulted in our own projects in southern Europe and in Africa.

Udea employs approximately 180 full-time and part-time staff who work at times which vary by department. The company as a whole, however, operates 24 hours a day and almost 7 days a week. The positive working atmosphere within the company and the attitude of its staff have contributed to Udea achieving sustainable growth. In order to ensure that this growth continues, Udea offers its staff attractive salaries and terms of employment.

Deliveries are made to our customers in the Netherlands from Monday to Sunday, meaning that goods can be delivered a maximum of seven times a week if required. On Sundays we deliver only to customers in the Randstad (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and surrounding areas) with shops which are also open on Sundays. Various growers are also often visited on Sundays in order to ensure that deliveries made on Mondays are as fresh as possible. Customer orders can be placed conveniently and efficiently via modem, through our website, by fax or by telephone.

Our cold stores and freezer rooms are web controlled. Within our premises we have 15 cold stores which can be individually temperature adjusted and 4 which can be individually adjusted for humidity, thus enabling us to guarantee optimum product quality. Unique to Udea is that the company cools produce using beetroot juice(!). This environmentally friendly coolant fits in perfectly with our company philosophy. In addition to a pleasant working atmosphere, decreasing energy losses was an important point for attention when designing our premises.

With the exception of the freezer warehouse, we use scanners in all our warehouses. This makes paperless order picking for up to four customers at a time possible using low-level order pick trucks. As well as being environmentally friendly, this also makes supplying our customers an efficient and practically faultless operation. Our staff are able to collect products more rapidly and with greater ease. This means that ergonomics, ecology and economy go hand in hand.
